    Mount Zion National Park

I visited Mount Zion National Park for the first time in 2012. This was my first experience at a national park. I was living in Las Vegas at the time and had mainly stuck to hiking Red Rock Canyon with my dogs and best friends LiLi and Peter Parker. I had been in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship for well over a year and sought out places I felt were safer than home. Living in Vegas was hard for me because I was not a drinker, I didn’t gamble or party. I felt claustrophobic and alone. I began looking for places to get away. I found Mount Zion. I…

    Adventure in Deland, Florida

I love the outdoors in Florida. If you are into adventure Florida is definitely where it’s at! From hiking to surfing, there is something for everyone. People always say, “Florida is too flat to hike, where are the mountains, the elevation.” Well, you don’t need elevation to have a beautiful day out on the trail. Florida has one of the largest state park systems in the US with more than 170 state parks that range from prairie lands to beaches, springs to swamps, and amazing oak and pine forests.  There are a lot of places to explore but some days I want to stick close to home in Deland. Deland…

Black History Month – Vanlife Addition

I’ve been into the outdoors for a while now. It all started with a trip to Hawai’i in 2009. This was my first trip where I’d flown over water to get to a place. I exited the plane and was in pure amazement with the beauty of the indigenous natives and how friendly everyone was. I attempted to see the entire island of O’ahu through the eyes of nature and culture by hiking, snorkeling and visiting the Polynesian Center to learn as much as possible in a short time. When I came back to the mainland I began to research other places I could visit in the states and explore.…

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

While living in Las Vegas, Nevada I spent countless hours on the Las Vegas Strip taking photos of the hotels and casinos. Each casino has its theme reminding me of Disneyland for adults.  After a few months, I began to grow bored with the strip. The casinos were too smoky and overcrowded. I longed to be outdoors so I began researching places to explore. My first adventure was driving out to Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock is a beautiful place. It is a National Conservation Area located approximately 16.9 miles (27.2 kilometers) from Downtown, Las Vegas. The Park has a 13-mile scenic drive route with lookouts if you just want to cruise…
